Leading up to the release of Resident Evil 5 I plan to do a full series playthrough, I will play all 7 games in the main series (and maybe UC as well since its canon) in order of their release. As I play them I will just throw up whatever thoughts on the game I have. Some of them I have not played in years so I wonder what my reaction will be, maybe I forgot a certain scare, or noticed something for the first time.

So why dont you guys join me. I am doing this on another site as well so this is a copy/paste job, dont worry I will get more personal with you guys if you respond here.

RESIDENT EVIL:

I will be playing the DS version of RE mainly cause it has no load times. I will be playing the original mode obviously. I will play as Jill cause that is my primary character for RE1, I have always loved her side more than Chris, why, cause of a red bearded badass of a man named Barry Burton (I heart Barry).

So the original, no game in this series even comes close to holding such a special place in my heart. Its not my favorite RE game, but its by far the most important to me. This is the game I know by heart, I know the lines, I know every room, every enemy, every scare, everything. Its the game that changed my whole view on gaming, its the reason I am here at a site like this. If I had entered into this series at a later point I doubt I would ever have the same love for this series, its all cause of this one game that I am the fan that I am.

The night I got this game, way back in 96, is seriously one of my best childhood memories, a sleep over with my brother and a friend, we stayed up playing this mindblowing game, something we had never seen before. I will never ever forget it, none of us will forget it, we still talk about that night to this day. This game was so ahead of its time, so groundbreaking. Every time I play this game all those feelings come rushing back

Ok enough about it, time to play it. I will start tomorrow and probably end it tomorrow, I can beat this game rather quickly. I will be back with all sorts of thoughts after I play.

Well of course I would like it, but I cant get it so reading about it would only make me feel worse that I cant play it.

You can upgrade in the directors cut to this hand cannon and it's like a Dirty Harry Magnum and it packs such a punch. When you reload the animation spins it one handed to the side and the chamber rotates. And you can reload by tipping up on the Wii controller. Makes you feel like a total BADASS.

It's so satisfying and the more I replay the levels, the more I find that it is, like many reviews have said, infinetely replayable.

And it's even better when you're using the hand cannons. Nyaa

You said that you had to hold that with two hands, weakling!

I can hold it with one hand, but then it does start to get a little tiring. And before I unlocked the hand cannon I was using the shotgun so it felt more natural to hold it like a shotgun and then...well I got used to it!

The whole website should be devoted to Overkill. And that is especially true for any thread involving zombies!

Resident Evil Zero: Lab to finish

I finished Zero last night, final stats 8 hours and 14 minutes. No deaths. Enjoyed it, its a nice long RE game. I do feel it just kind of borrows elements from past RE games, so it feels like its going through the motions but the motions are still great, shows how fun these games were. Seeing how this is the "worst" RE game shows how high a quality series this is.

So I left off in the lab under the church and I remembered why I knew I always hated this area, cause it splits up the characters and makes you use that stupid item transfer thing. This whole section was such a pain, I made it worse cause I sent Billy up rather than Rebecca, I did not remember that you had to use the chemicals to create a solvent. If you dont send Rebecca up you cant get both chemicals, I looked around forever, I had no clue what to do. I was not about to go back to the facility and look everywhere for this damn green chemical tank, so i just went online and saw where it was. So cause of a simple choice of sending Billy up, I wasted all sorts of backtracking time. Then there is the whole, find one item, send it down the chute, use the other character to use that item which find another item which you have to send up the chute, and repeat. Annoying.

Thankfully you get out of there and enter RE2, yay! Now this part I love, seeing the factory remade like this gets you thinking of a RE2 remake. So I go down to that area where Mr. X attacks you, I reach the computer monitors and think to myself, awww no Mr. X on the screen. So I head out and HOLY SHIT HUNTERS!!! Probably the only time in this entire playthrough that I jumped. Didn't expect that at all, never remembered it. So you go to that elevator areas in the factory and the proto tyrant shows up, great boss fight but I dont like the idea of this Tyrant running around when Wesker made such a huge deal about his Tyrant being all special. I know this is supposed to be a discared prototype Tyrant but it looks and moves the same. Its like they threw in a Tyrant cause you have to have one.

Then you enter the treatment plant and wow I forgot how large this section is. Its a good final area, some good puzzles, good mix of enemies like zombies, leechman, lurkers, and even proto Tyrant again. An enjoyable section which leads to a really great final battle. Oh special mention to "And the world will burn in an inferno of hate!", thats bad even by RE standards. The first phase of queen leech is the basic shoot it until its dead fight, easy. The next phase thankfully changes it up, as it basically becomes a distraction fight where your goal is just to keep the queen leech distracted until the time is up. Reminds me of RE3, the locations are similar plus the way jill had to activate the batteries is similar to how Rebecca had to open the locks. Also both bosses get killed in the final movie by what has to be a magic magnum where one bullet blows them to pieces, how come that didn't work during the actual game.
So I had fun with it.

No deaths? Is there an easy mode to this game? I might get off my ass and replay it if there is?

I only died in RE3 and CV, RE games are easy (except RE4 in which I die all the time).

Yes, Zero has an easy mode.

Funnily I found RE4 to be much easier thna other RE games (though I played the others when I was young). Excluding some of the bonus missions, of course.

Its only easier cause it has checkpoints every room. RE4 is a much harder game. Imagine if you had to start over at the beginning of each subchapter when you died. Most of you would be cursing the game to hell and back cause its so frustratingly hard.
