Yeah, take away the "twist" and there's not really much left to enjoy. Whereas if you take away the "twist" from something like Oldboy, then the characters and stories etc. are still enough for the narrative to be enjoyable.

Oldboy was powerful and great the first time through. But even though I knew the twist watching it again you can see how the puzzle all fits together so in some respects it made me appreciate the way the whole thing was built and I enjoyed it more. There are quite a few films I didn't like till I saw them twice, Throw Down, Hero, House of Flying Daggers, Thirst, A Tale of Two Sisters, even Oldboy to an extent.

I find usually it's the ending that feels hinky and once you've seen it, you know the ending and accept it second time through so can enjoy the movie more. There are a lot of dubious politically inspired endings to Chinese movies (as doctrinated by the government one would assume).

So I need the lowdown on Naruto as there have been several series. I dont want to watch the first, it looks too old visually.

So what series are there, what order do you watch them in and how are they related?

Also, Bleach series 7 is seriously boring.

Attack On Titan is insanely good. I just finished episode 14. It looks like this will be favorite anime series of all time soon.

I also watched the first two episodes of No Game No Life. It's quite good It has a fantastic artstyle. It's about two sibling gamers who are so good at playing games, that a god brought them into another world where gaming is rules all. It seems to be a newer release since there's only six episodes, but there's more on the way according Crunchyroll.

On Funimation, I watched three episodes of Air Gear. I'm hooked on this one now too. It's about rollerblade gangs, only with futuristic superpowered rollerblades.

It's safe to say, I'm fully addicted now. Looks like I'm going to keep both of my paid anime streaming accounts for the forseeable future. I blame you, GG! Nyaa

I am, but haven't for the past few days because I keep clicking on shiny new stuff. These site are crammed full of awesome stuff. It's hard to resist trying something new, and then marathoning that for 5+ hours, lol.

I find anime/toons so easy to watch because minus credits and openings each ep is 20 minutes each. You can watch 3 eps in an hour. Check out Code Geass and FMA Brotherhood, Hellsing Ultimate along with Fairytail those are the top four I've seen. Hellsing Ultimate is only 10 parts so easy to watch.

I usually don't skip the openings or the end credits as I usually enjoy the music during those parts. I'll definitely check those series out soon, GG. Thanks.

But if you're watching 5 hours that means you watch the credits 10 times and the openings 10 times.

Yup. As long as the music is good, I'll do just that.

I watched all 5 episodes of No Game No Life. Hilarious anime, especially ep 5. It's a simulcast release with Japanese TV, so hopefully more episodes will be coming soon.

Funimation has started releasing Attack On Titan with English dub on their site; only the first ep is available so far, with more coming soon leading up to the BR/DVD series release later this summer. The dubbing isn't bad, but I do prefer the Japanese version.

Claymore: The first episode was very good, and it faithfully follows the manga, which I am currently reading. I will be watching more episodes soon. It's a serious action-horror story (absolutely no humor or fanservice here) about shape-shifting creatures called Yoma that prey on humans. They are extremely strong, have regenerative powers, and can take the form of any human, making them near-impossible to find and kill. Only special warriors called "Claymores" can destroy these creatures, because they have been partically infused with Yoma flesh, making them half-Yoma, half-human hybrids. Very cool stuff.

I also watched 2.5 episodes of Rosario + Vampire, and it was awful. I love the manga, which has a campy Buffy The Vampire Slayer feel to it, with some of very funny light-hearted fanservice here and there, but the anime changes that into a full TV-MA rated ecchi show (the manga would have been rated TV-14 at most). I don't mind some ecchi (i.e. High School of the Dead), but this is not what the author intended, and it effectively ruins the story and characters of the manga. I'm very disappointed with this one.  Bleh.

What exactly do you mean by fanservice when talking about anime? Fans of the manga?

Fanservice is a term that ususally refers to unnecessary panty shots, excessive boob jigging, partial nudity, and overall naughty sexual humor (or ecchi). When done well, it can add  a lot humor to an anime or manga. Too much, and it can feel cheap and even take away from the story and characters, as it did with the Rosario + Vampire anime. The story became second place to the fanservice.

Sounds like I need to see this Rosario Nyaa

So you're basically saying, from what I've seen, High School of the Dead right?

Yes. High School of the Dead is an ecchi fanservice show, which it was always intended to be. I found it to be very funny, and story and characters still hold up despite the fanservice.
