Official Trailer

Coming: 2010

From IGN's Interview: "Reggie Fils-Aime on the Record"

IGN: You have a bit more insight on the development of Galaxy 2. What's the direction for the game? Do they really want to blow it out or will it be more of the same?

Reggie: What Mr. Miyamoto has shared is that if the first Galaxy was maybe more inviting in terms of all the audiences, what Galaxy 2 is going to be is maybe a little more Nintendo fan / harder gamer focused. A little tougher. The use of Yoshi makes it a little more challenging. We showed some of the snippets of some of the activities -- it's a bit more challenging. It's going to be, if you will, for more of that passionate Mario fan who grew up getting challenged with Super Mario World. It's going to be much more in that area.

From "Shigeru Miyamoto Roundtable LiveBlog"

"With Super Mario Galaxy, it's the first time we really worked with spherical worlds and we had a lot of ideas about how to use gravity. However, when we finished the game, we realized there were a ton of ideas we just couldn't fit in," he says.

More than 90 percent of what you will see in Super Mario Galaxy 2 is all brand new. Maybe even 95 percent . . . Galaxy 2 contains roughly the same amount of content as the original.

Galaxy 2 is very, very far along, but since Nintendo has New Super Mario Bros. Wii, it's going to hold off and keep Galaxy 2 for next year. :(

I am now past the 60 star mark, opened world 5. There are some crazy awesome levels there. There is one called upsidedown something, I forget but its incredible. But here is the thing, I play the first star, I get side tracked cause I find a hidden pipe that takes me to a new star mission with that robot junk dude (same guy from the first game). It was a tough mini game to get through but i did it. I then restarted the star finished the level and that is it, galaxy complete. I am like NOOOO I want more of this level, it was a great idea that I feel could be used a lot more. Every level is awesome and yes there is something new in almost all of them but damn I wish we spent more time in them. I don't mean have less variety of levels, I want both, lots of levels with lots of stars in them, at the very least I want to feel like they explored the concept of the level to it's fullest.

I just did what was easily the hardest challenge so far, a speed comet challange on one of the harder platforming levels, it was excellent.

That track was written by Kondo.

I've been listening to the soundtrack all yesterday and part of today. It's amazing music, up there with Joe Hisashi.

Here is a video of the orchestra prepping and performing, including Yokota, Kondo and Miyamoto.

i remember reading in one review that having all these grand orchestral tunes playing all the time was too much and they thought it was a negative.  i thought it was a hilarious complaint.  next thing you know reviewers will start complaining about a game being too good

I actually heard some of those complaints about SMG2.

One preview I remember said that the game was Nintendo at their swaggering best to the point of being obnoxious.

Greatest soundtrack in the history of videogames, seriously. I cant wait to use my points for it.

80 something stars in, I am in world 6 and these levels have been incredible! Still nothing crazy hard but these levels are so well done. This game effortlessly mixes 3D with 2D unlike anything I have seen. Its gotten to the point where the 3D stuff feels as focused and well designed as 2D Mario levels. Again the big complaint I got is that there is what feels to me to many throw away stars which require some simple mini game like objective to complete rather than having full second or third stars in these incredible levels. I guess I need to look at this game more like a 2D Mario, you literally could go stage to stage when I am used to sticking to one 3D stage for a while with many objectives. But yeah the level design is CRAZY!

I did the throwback galaxy (M64 level). It was an awesome nostalgia trip, how simple the level design was back then, it was almost laughable. There are some surprises obviously cause the level is uber easy without it. The later Galaxies are excellent. The amount of variety this game has is truly amazing, they were not lying when they said that nearly every star brings in a new element or gameplay change up. I am at 90 stars and yet I still feel like I want to do a hundred more.

Watch out Vader, the Throwback Galaxy was already spoiled by Gaminggeek, so watch the spoilers from now of one. Only the OMG gjejfkj patented Vaders posts, please.

I know, that is why I knew it was ok to post it. You know nothing about the later galaxies, but I will tell you there are some levels that are like GASP . Strangely there is also one that was like Sad but its surrounded by Happy . I will beat the game (in terms of final boss) tonight, full reaction to that later.
