After flexing my manhood with DS, I decided to get back to a mastodontic game I never cared to finish even after having spent more than 40 hours in my first playthrough. TES: Oblivion. I wasn't having fun with my imperial anymore so I decided to ditch that character and reroll with a breton lady. I tried to make her somewhat attractive, failing miserably. Oh well, at least I never have to look at her face again. Except for menus.

I'm 10 hours or so into the game, dabbled a bit with the main quest to get my feet wet again, freed Kvatch and took Boromir to that hideout in the asshole of the mountains. After that, I said "fuck the main quest", joined the mages guild and started working on those quests. I'm trying to keep quest burden to a minimum, to avoid excesses like it happened to me in my first playthrough. So far I've succeeded in keeping things streamlined, which means I get to savor each quest in a continuous fashion, instead of hopping here and there. My plan is to do the mages, then fighters guild, and leave thieves and dark brotherhood for last. After that I'll give the expansions a try.

I'm also having a blast making potions, something I never tried in my first run, and now I keep an eye on every single herb, fungus and flower that I stumble upon.

Cyrodiilic - As far as I can tell, this word only exists in Oblivion.

How can you not have fun in Oblivion?

You truly DO suck!

Anyone who doesn't like Oblivion must have Parkinson's or something. Nyaa

Oblivion is fantastic. Yes this is a pointless post.

Okay, one hour in. I'm loving it. I tried it once before and gave up on it after 2-3 minutes.  This time it is sticking, probably because I now have a lot more experience in this type of game.

*Looks at Oblivion GOTY edition still in the shrink-wrap.  Thinks about joining Aspro and Steel and starting to play Oblivion*

Hmm, not tonight.

Will think about it again tomorrow

Yeah, gotta be in the mood for it.

So is this going to be the official thread for Oblivion play though?

I'm two hours in now and playing as an Imperial thief / knight, which is a bad choice because ever since Chronotrigger I've had a complex about stealing in-game. On the way to Kvatch for Picard's bastard son.

My question right now is, will I ever come across a store I can sell some of this loot in?  I came across one store so far and the owner was a complete bitch who didn't want anything to do with me.

I've been slowly working through the quests of the mages guild, and at the same time I try to do any quest that happens to pop up so it won't linger in the back of my quest sheet. Aspro, if you want to fool around and do all guild quests, I strongly recommend you to leave the thieves and dark brotherhood ones for last, since they're in my opinion the best of them. If you're only doing one guild or two, skip the fighters and mages ones and go straight for the ones I mentioned.

Random stuff that happens as you stroll around towns is always entertaining.

I'm using fast travel a lot more this time. I only ride between close locations. It's kind of relaxing to enjoy an early morning horseback ride, and stop to collect a rare plant you migh use for alchemy experiments. However, I'm not flattening my ass against a saddle by riding all the way to Cheydinhal from Kvatch.Fuck that. I embrace fast travel with every fiber of my being.

If you stole stuff, then yeah, maybe some store owners won't take your ill-gotten shit. If that's the case, check your menu and locate the hot items and drop them. They should have a red hand icon placed besides them. You can stop by in pretty much any decent town and find general stores, blacksmiths and if the town is big enough, alchemy joints and more.

I've been walking everywhere, I'll have to figure out what the Fast Travel is all about.  I just got to Kvatch and saw an Oblivion gate.  I just ignored it as walked behind it -- that seems to have worked.
