Nintendo 3DS7.60
Overall 7.60
This review is going to be short cause I simply don't remember the details of this game. I played the last few star levels last night and realized I had not reviewed it. So here it goes, its no where near as good as the console Mario games but slightly better than NSMB1. The biggest issue is that its more of the same, the addition of all the coins does nothing to make the levels that fresh. The gimmick adds nothing to the game really as there are no leaderboards or any true reward for getting a bunch of coins.

So what you are left with is another 2D Mario game with simple level design. The addition of the raccoon tail doesnt add much as most levels dont make much use of it. The coin powerups are more interesting, especially one that turns everything you hit to coins, including blocks that may block your path. This leads to some well hidden secrets. The secrets I would say are easily the most inspired aspect of the game. There are still many spots in the map that are blocked off to me cause I have yet to find the hidden exits, the ones I have found were extremely well hidden. I found replaying levels to discover all secrets to be more engaging that playing the levels just to finish them. The reason being we have done all this before, seen all these worlds, fought all these bosses.

While the platforming still controls like a dream and there are some levels that create that gaming moment of zen, most of this game feels like a retread. This is a quality game but at some point having so many Mario platformers out at once creates that fatigue factor so many franchises suffer from. There is not enough new or interesting material in this game to over come that hurdle.

I saw the extended trailer and the game looks kinda good, but if I want more NSMB I guess I can get the DLC for the U game?
