am not going to write a big review, dont feel like spending that much time on this game. Dark Sector is basically a mash of gameplay elements taken from gears, RE4, Uncharted, a tiny bit of Zelda, HS and even halo. The gameplay very much feels like you have played this before, its your standard 3rd person shooter where you take cover behind convinently placed objects. The one unqiue element to the game is the glaive which is like a Zelda boomrang of death. As you play you gain all sorts of powers that go along with it, one of which is aftertouch which allows you to stear the glaive in slow-mo (exactly like Heavenly Sword). My favorite aspect of the glaive is that you can absorb elemental powers of fire, ice and electricty from the environment and use them against your enemies and to solve puzzles. Using this method the game does present some decent puzzles, better than RE4 to say the least and at least changes up the gameplay every once in a while. The problem with the glaive is that it never feels that powerful, I still found regular guns to be more useful in many situations, its a neat gameplay addition but it never dives in completely with that idea, its like they were to afraid to abandon the shooting completely.

I can happily report that this is a really good game. The game doesn't do anything wrong, it just doesn't do anything exceptional. The level design can be bland but it still does its job of providing unqiue firefights. The pacing is good with a solid mix of action and puzzles. There are many new enemies introduced as you play and some decent boss fights. Though I must say that I think the game starts off great, its at its best during the middle but slowly gets a bit worst toward the end. i feel this way cause I did not like some of the later enemies and the later boss fights become somewhat annoying. Like RE4 there is ammo scattered in boxes that you have to break up, there is a merchant where you can buy and upgrade new weapons (sucks comparied to RE4, very basic). The game uses the auto heal by not getting hit for a while mechanic every game seems to use now , I dont like it and I think it takes a lot away from the game. Imagine if in RE4 you can run to a corner and wait to have you health regenerate, eh its more of a pet peeve of mine I guess. The bottomline is this game gives you a ton of crap to shot and dismember using a bunch cool powers and weapons and that is always fun, its no different here.

The graphics are great, the sound is exceptional (put this on a good sound system, wow.) the story on the other hand reaches new levels of terrible. I honestly have no clue what the game was about and I dont want to know. There is a multiplayer mode but its so basic thats it not even worth playing. There are achievements (entitlements in the PS3 version) and a harder mode to unlock when you beat the game, but thats about it in terms of replay, if you replay it again its going to be cause you enjoyed the gameplay, there is no real reason to play it again. Its standard 8 hours length, it never feels boring, no backtracking, its solid game all around.

Its a weird game to review cause it does everything right. If this game was a launch game for one of the systems I think it would have been much better received, its just that released now there are games that do this type of gameplay better. Its an excellent rental, or if there was nothing big coming out I could see this game as a good buy (to bad this year is stacked with big games). I was pleasently surprised at how much I enjoyed it, it doesn't leave any impact, its not really a game I will be thinking about but it was a fun game.

Overall Score: 7.7

you just reminded me I have this game.  I need a game I don't have to think about, so this might scratch that itch.
