I have only hit the asphalt once or twice in my life -- if you have never had the experience of facial road rash it consists of a salty, gritty taste in your mouth, the feeling that the skin on your face is on fire and a lasting pulsing pain in your forehead. At the same time though, there is a tinge of exhilaration, brought about from knowing that you have survived the experience. For whatever reason -- perhaps all the time on the virtual highways -- this game conjured up remembrances of those experiences.

Game play consists of you selecting a character (complete with the bane of '90's games, the stereotypical afro-adorned black man) and then taking on a series of driving tests, races and fetch quests in your 18-Wheeler. If you are a gamer you will enjoy the challenge of mastering a somewhat different way of virtual driving, but this wears thin very fast.

18W:APT is, no doubt, a wonderful arcade experience. I've seen the console, it is a masterpiece of arcade design, complete with over-sized steering wheel. All the same, it is an experience that does not translate well to the Gamecube.

The graphics are muddy, as is the sound and the voice acting, while of good quality is spoiled by repetitive and shallow dialog (but what do you really expect from an arcade game?).

If you see this game for under $5, pick it up, or better yet, just keep on trucking to the arcade and plug in your $5 into the real thing.
