My Switch 2 case arrived.

Screenshot-20250529-143142-Amazon-Shopping.jpg

It has a hard front, padded back, has a side slot for a bottle or accessories.

A security slot for your wallet.

A combination lock built in, various inside compartments and a USB pass through for external charging.

So I saw a report saying Doom the Dark Ages had sold less than a million because 3 million are playing it on gamepass.

Good thing or bad?

I was reading that article about Switch 2s fast charging, then read this:

"Charging time is another curious point. With 36W input, you’d expect quick top-ups, but the company still says it takes about 3.5 hours for a full charge. That’s slower than some phones charge in 2025. Maybe they’re playing it safe. Maybe it’s a thermal design issue. Or maybe we’re just spoiled by phones. It’s hard to say."

What's going on here? My phone has the same 36w fast charging capability but charges in an hour.

Oh shit, I think, my phone didn't come with a charger, I had to buy a fast charger? Is Switch 2s battery fast charging but the power brick isn't a fast charging power brick?

I'll be okay as I have the right usb c fast charger already.

Only MS can say, I think. Doesn't sound like it's doing as well as the previous games. It's my favorite in this modern trilogy.

I just had the misfortune of eating American mustard.

Why does it taste like gherkins?

American yellow mustard is awesome on hotdogs and ham sandwiches.

Are there any figures on if gamepass has been good for developers?

Games on Game Pass are naturally going to sell less on platforms that have the service available on them but that doesn’t explain sales on the platforms that don’t like the PS5. Even games that have been on the service for much longer and are just now being ported over to the PS5 have sold much better then Doom: The Dark Ages. Perhaps it got lost in some other games recently released and/or people just aren’t interested in paying the $70 USD for it right now.

I think a lot of things had an effect on The Dark Ages. Expedition 33 was a surprise hit that probably chipped away at it a little bit. People squirreling away money for the Switch 2 couldn't have helped either. And obviously game pass is going to take a chunk out of it too.

But overall, I think people are just being more careful with their money. Why pay $70 for a game that's going to get a discount within 3 months? They're never going to go full Atlus (Persona 3 Reloaded is just over a year old and you can regularly get it new for $25), but games dropping price quicker than ever. I think a lot of people are finally figuring that out.

On a more positive sales note though, apparently the new Fantasy Life game new is doing very well. It's getting a lot of positive word of mouth and it looks like a lot of people are throwing down for it. Already a half million copies sold I believe.

I'm happy to hear that. I've always liked Level-5, but it's definitely been a while since they've put out a game that I thought was particularly good. If they could get back to where they were in the 2000s, that would be a win for everybody.

Has there been some backlash over modern Dooms style?

I hear some people hate Eternal and people who love Eternal aren't enjoying The Dark Ages as much?

I initially loved Eternal but I stopped playing after some repetitive bits. It probably didn't help that I binged Doom 2016 then went straight into Eternal.

So I got a bit burnt out. I even bought the deluxe version with all the DLC.

Yeah, I’m not really sure about that either. I do see some people lamenting the absence of a multiplayer mode in The Dark Ages. Personally though I never thought much of the multiplayer stuff in the previous two games so not really something I miss.

I also stopped playing Eternal about mid way. I was enjoying it for awhile but then the gameplay mechanics started feeling a bit much for me.

I really like Dark ages but I do get the feeling when I play it that id was forced to make it; it's a well made game but it's not as polished as Eternal. Interviews with the devs feels oddly muted when compared to their more excited interviews when Eternal came out. Plus the whole controversy with music composer Mick Gordon hanging over them too; some Eternal fans are refusing to buy Dark Ages because of how he treated.

Odd.

I think its a game many people will get, eventually.

But after two Dooms they may not feel the immediate need to day 1 it?

Does anyone else hear a game announcement then buy the preceding game instead?

When they announced Ai The Somnium files 3 I was like, well better check out the 2nd game now.
