I've been testing some old switch games.

Otherwise playing FAST Fusion and Mario Kart World.

I see why Nintendo calls MKW an interconnected world rather than an open world game.

Because of the ludicrous way Mario Kart tracks are designed its not like a normal open world driving game. The world wasn't built like a big city for car navigation.

The world is so big you can't even see which direction to drive in at times as everything is so far away.

There's no map either so I often find myself driving about seeing the same stuff before realising that I've circled back on myself.

The wings need to be able to be deployed whenever you want in free roaming but also in races. It would add a tactical element and open up shortcuts.

Knockout mode is tough, I always get screwed last minute. Don't think I'll be able to complete one.

I think free roaming would be my main time sink and I would enjoy it more than racing with a few key features.

An adventure mode would be cool, with a story and a map, objective markers.

They could add more activity to make it feel more alive, more vehicles, people to talk too.

A radar to head towards points of interest would be cool. I also stumbled upon a huge boat you could take control of but it kicked you out after a while.

I feel like MKW so far is just the opening gambit and Nintendo should add these elements I've talked about to make it more like Diddy Kong or even Lego City Mario edition.

Switch 2: For faster Internet speeds, from the system settings to to Internet settings, click your network, edit values.

Change MTU from 1400 to 1500.

BTW anyone spot the Lexar Play Pro 1tb micro sd express card for sale? Can't see it anywhere.

Microsoft announced a handheld. Meh

Yeah but not really. They are cooperating with ASUS, but there is no evidence that MS is working on their own handheld. In fact there were rumours last week that they stopped internal development and are waiting to see how the ASUS project goes.

They are a little bit lost it seems.  They want to commit everything to GamePass, but at the same time still want a hardware presence, and the two concepts cannot co-exist successfully.  If you are releasing everything on PlayStation and PC, then what is the compelling argument for Xbox hardware?

Even so I think it'd be smart for them to release their own version as a kind of baseline for OEM's.  Kind of like how they showed the way with the Surface tablets.

So I managed to play some MK World.  The minute to minute gameplay is great, although very different from that of say MK8 due to how the mechanics have been tweaked.  Everything seems to be set up to ensure as much mayhem as possible.  It's like Nintendo perfected how to translate the NPC rubberbanding into actual gameplay.  The whole game is set up to get the most out of this.

I'm not a big fan of what the open world brings to the table though.  Tracks are often wide with long straight stretches that are exhilerating when you're in the middle of a pack, but not challening at all when you're ahead.  Sometimes the track will open up to accomodate different routes, which is a lot of  fun as racers fly by everywhere and you're never quite sure what place you'll be in once everything converges again.  There's too much visual clutter, debris and distractions that were added to make things more interesting while driving around the open world, but serve no purpose in a race.  More than once did I find that the visual design didn't clearly communicate what direction I needed to be heading in, which will only become more problematic when playing MKW as a party game, with people who will not be familiar with the tracks.

We're all currently enjoying it a lot in our household, but I do feel I prefer the more curated and streamlined courses of MK8.  MKWorld would have been a better game if they hadn't gone for the interlinked open world, but had just created larger tracks to accomodate the 24 player frenzy.

I needed the open world for replay value.  Racing can only be fun for so long once my family tire of it, so the collection gameplay is great to me.

I've been playing the open world. I really enjoy it, you have to give it a decent session.

Very chilled and its got enough challenges which are inventive.

Just needs some story, some loose directions to push you forward. More talking characters.

Seen some cool stuff, did a mission where you fly as a helicopter. Came across bikers you had to trail and take out with green shells.

They actually mixed in retro snes tracks into the environments and you do mini races.

There's wall racing and rail grinding missions.

This is basically my main mode.

Knockout tour is fun but now what I thought. I thought you would finish one track and then a directional arrow would point in the general direction of the next race.

I thought an announcer would yell, get to the next race or start line and you'd just free wheel it cross country any way you wanted.

Instead each race just seamlessly merges into the next race.

Zelda notes is pretty cool. I found about seven korok seeds in about ten minutes. It even gives you directions like Siri.
