Leading up to the release of Resident Evil 5 I plan to do a full series playthrough, I will play all 7 games in the main series (and maybe UC as well since its canon) in order of their release. As I play them I will just throw up whatever thoughts on the game I have. Some of them I have not played in years so I wonder what my reaction will be, maybe I forgot a certain scare, or noticed something for the first time.

So why dont you guys join me. I am doing this on another site as well so this is a copy/paste job, dont worry I will get more personal with you guys if you respond here.

RESIDENT EVIL:

I will be playing the DS version of RE mainly cause it has no load times. I will be playing the original mode obviously. I will play as Jill cause that is my primary character for RE1, I have always loved her side more than Chris, why, cause of a red bearded badass of a man named Barry Burton (I heart Barry).

So the original, no game in this series even comes close to holding such a special place in my heart. Its not my favorite RE game, but its by far the most important to me. This is the game I know by heart, I know the lines, I know every room, every enemy, every scare, everything. Its the game that changed my whole view on gaming, its the reason I am here at a site like this. If I had entered into this series at a later point I doubt I would ever have the same love for this series, its all cause of this one game that I am the fan that I am.

The night I got this game, way back in 96, is seriously one of my best childhood memories, a sleep over with my brother and a friend, we stayed up playing this mindblowing game, something we had never seen before. I will never ever forget it, none of us will forget it, we still talk about that night to this day. This game was so ahead of its time, so groundbreaking. Every time I play this game all those feelings come rushing back

Ok enough about it, time to play it. I will start tomorrow and probably end it tomorrow, I can beat this game rather quickly. I will be back with all sorts of thoughts after I play.

Well I kinda of liked the first movie. The one where she beats up Nemesis is awful though.

I liked all of them, despite the fact that they nearly completely diverge from canon.

Degeneration (if that's the CG one) is completely awesome. Happy

Separate Ways

I am playing this on the Wii, which I must say is THE way this game should be played. Rarely has a game and a control scheme ever been so right for each other. Playing RE4 on the Wii is so natural it almost seems like RE4 was designed around the wiimote. There better be another RE4 like game that takes advantage of the wii controls cause it would be a shame if there was not.

So Separate Ways is basically the expansion pack of RE4, it tells the story of Ada which I believe is the true storyline in RE4, Leon is actually the side story. Her actions and the people she is dealing with directly effect the overall RE storyline. Like RE2, what happens in this mode is that you see the game for anothers point of view. Its a shame this wasnt included in the original game cause it would have felt perfect to have both sides just like RE2 did many years ago. But eventually we got this story and it was worth the wait.

So you start in the same village as RE4, and immediately you see the same game different viewpoint scenario as you are in the village as Leon is being attacked. I love that you hear him fighting, I love that when you try to grab the shotgun Ada says its better to leave it for Leon. I love that its your mission to go ring the bell that stopped the attack. Gameplay is the same, you take a different route but its the same enemies, usually in the same locations. In the church you see that its Ada that removes the crest from that puzzle lock and she is who puts in the catseye, another awesome moment where what she does affects the main game.

After you beat the mission you get Ada's report which tells the backstory of the characters in the game, info that would have been usefull in the main game, again why I feel this is the true story. I love that Wesker is always talking to you, his actions governs the storyline and his absence in RE4 main game was noticable, it felt like you were fighting a bunch of nobodies, but throw Wesker into the mix and now its important. He is as big an asshole as ever, he directs Ada to kill Leon without remorse, later desides to use Leon as a pawn. Has no regard for any life, he just wants the sample. I still find it hard to believe that Wesker was being played by Ada, I have to think that Wesker knew Ada was going to betray him. Speaking of that, great plot twist. I remember how throughout my first SW playthrough everytime Ada talked about her mission with the organization I always figured she meant whatever company Wesker is in charge of. Now I notice that from the start she was talking about her true employer whoever that may be.

So the next chapter has you rescuing Luis, you go to other locations of village. You fight El giante and this time you can actually access the platforms above. I cannot tell you how often I thought I was missing something cause I could get Leon up there. It just shows that this was planned from the start, Ada can go to areas Leon couldnt. Oh I like how its her that was on that sacrifice stone, I remember that Leon says this was used recently, and I always wondered on who, well now you get to play that.

The third chapter is easily the worse, it almost felt like they just put it in there cause they had to include a part of the castle. It was a small section of the castle, almost nothing was different, you go through the same senarios Leon does and Ada didn't really effect anything. Kind of pointless section.

Now I am at chapter 4 which is where this mode really takes off. I brand new area, new bosses await, more story, brilliant from here on out. Just think about what this mode offers, a good 4-5 hour adventure, it tells the story from the opposite point of view like how classic RE games did, it gives you insight into the true storyline, it has new areas, new weapons, and even new bosses. If there is DLC on RE5 I wish its like this.

Separate Ways Conclusion:

Final stats - 3 hours 18 minutes, died 8 times, killed like 380, 79% accuracy.

So chapter 4 starts off in the new area and wow is it brilliant, great use of the hookshot from the start, well hidden treasures. Bought the bowgun which is an awesome weapon. I get past the first section and enter the shipyard. This is as epic an action scene RE4 as a whole has, I forgot how amazing it was.

So I run along and the ships guns open up, a ton of enemies come charging at me. Get a grenade! *machine gun fire* Oops dead. Ok the one thing I dont like about this part is the near instant kills those guns can do, many times the first shot will stun you and the next one will kill you back to back before you can do anything. So I got to stay in cover, first thing I did the next time was turn and run, get behind cover then throw the grenade, boom, like 7 enemies died. Ok RUN, gun fire chasing me, move move must make the hookshot spot, woo shoot it. Oh crap this gun keeps hitting me, must make it too gun, damn not the right gun, jump down RUN. Phew made it to the giant turret, take that stupid boat!!! Explosions everywhere, ok its guns are gone, that carousel thing is now active. Enemies are all over the boat, time to snipe. Headshots gallore, I think I cleared a path time to hop on.

Ok got to the other side, crap enemies everywhere shotgun, boom goes your head. Pistol a few of them, snipe others, swicth to tmp for some, back to shooty. Making my way up, guy with shield time to shotgun him, click... oh crap it has to reload, I am stuck in animation, OH CRAP a dude with dynomite is behind him, hurry. Well shield guy knocks me on my ass but that quickly finished the reload animation I got up shot the dynomite in time, boom both dead. Got to the door... huge gun appears, crap, ok up the boat, I feel like batman, across the level. Get to the cannon. Woo, blow stuff up.

Countdown timer, I must finish off all the boats canons first. Ok need to get back on the carousel, enemies are starting to hop on, snipe, bye. Get on get to the other side, oh look a guy with a bowgun way far back, get my sniper zoom in, ready for the headshot and fire... as I fire an enemy jumps down from above gets in my bullets path so my bullet kills a falling enemy in midair and still blows up the head of the enemy behind him, YES. Get all the way to the exit and a dynomite dude is waiting, he throws it but I shoot it in midair and blow it up in his face. And I am out. HOLY SHIT YES YES YES, BEST GAME EVER!!! I guess RE5 is like that all the time... YES!!!

Next section is the outside of the plant another new section. This one is slower, more about encounters with groups of enemies, rather simple, I pick them apart with my huge collection of guns. Big chainsaw dude shows up, but thats why I have a bowgun, boom good night. Go through a few more sections and I get to the Leon Krauser knife fight.

Start of chapter 5, its in the huge helicopter section. Enemies with shields, guys throwing dynomite from afar, shotgun the shield guys, snipe the dynomite out of their hands to blow them all up. Run into one of the rooms, oh crap they trapped me in here, they are coming in from the ceiling. Shotgun time, this is no problem, head explodes, plagas head, damn I hate those especially in a small place, well I got light grenades so no problem. Get out and two dudes are standing near a red barrell, smart, boom. Get to the next area which in the acutual game is one of the hardest areas, damn turrets. But here the turrets are empty but big old chaingun dude comes out. He trapped me in the long hall to the right I had very little health, I need to hit him quick and from long distance, I got the bowgun, from afar hit him four times, dead. Run and hit the switch, need to get to the other side and hit the other switch, man if this game had co-op this would have been a perfect use of it, wonder if they will ever include co-op in RE5. Nyaa Other switch had a chaingun guy as well, easy.

Ok time for Krauser, this version is harder than the Leon one, you have to fight him in four sections, small little areas. Hell of a lot of dodging is involved but I squeaked by without dying, thanks to the knife. And then the awesome new Saddler fight, though I had so many bowgun arrows it was damn easy, I just shot him and dodged him a few times, I felt like I cheated. The fight is so much better when you have to use lesser guns. You get caught, end up in the final area where you have to get out of the tower before the time runs out, classic RE ending, throw the rocket and its over. You hop on a helicopter and ride out into the sunset, like all great RE endings. Ada's final report was so amazing, it was like a bombshell, Ada double crossed Wesker, she is working for a new company, Wesker is recreating Umbrella and is working with a company called S. A war was coming. Hopefully RE5 addresses all that.

Fantastic mode, phenomenal game.

Is chapter 4 long? I really dont want to be repeating the same environments and enemies with a new character. Is there a video somewhere which runs through seperate ways? Is it true that the Wii version of SW is just the PS2 version?

I'm sure you can find SW on YouTube rather easily.

Vader'll have to tell you about individual chapters, since I don't quite remember which was which, except that the first was in the village. Nyaa

I've been told that the Wii edition is the GC version of the main game plus the extra content of the PS2 edition--so that would make it the best version even without regard to Wiimote use, and by this I also mean that the PS2 content looks like it does on the PS2... or so I've been told. I haven't actually done any comparisons.

Chapter 4 can take an hour or so on your first try. It has about 4 new areas, one of them is gigantic.

I can never tell but yeah people say that SW in Wii is just the PS2 port.
