Now things are getting interesting.

IGN eyes on trailer and screens

A lone warrior chopping through an army of robotic warriors with an outsized Cloud Strife-like energy sword. Colossal war machines advancing though a misty canyon, shooting anything that moves. The few remaining human defenders hiding behind simple wooden shields that are no match for high-energy weapons. Welcome to the world of Monado.

The debut trailer for Monado: Beginning of the World premiered today at E3: 2009, and first impressions for the new Wii RPG are that the beginning is going to be pretty exciting. Things kick off with that canyon-set battle, revealing more and bigger enemies with an interesting steampunk design. Things likely don't end well for our lone warrior, as we soon segue to a young blonde hero discovering that energy sword - now inert - only to see it flash blindingly to life the moment he picks it up. Your standard JRPG Hero's Journey (tm) is definitely in full effect here, with just a dash of King Arthur.

Gameplay appears to be open-world, where you'll traverse lush jungles, glowing forests, climb sheer walls, and encounter the crumbling remains of a conquered people. It looks nicely textured and details pop, animating at what looks like a smooth 30 fps.

Players will pick up two partners in their travels, and while combat initially looks turn-based, we saw all three party members attacking simultaneously. Transitions into combat are completely seamless; characters approach enemies, draw weapons, and it's on. One scene showed your team (wielding much smaller edged weaponry) surrounding a lizard-man enemy, who didn't make much of a dent in their lifebars before it was downed. A much larger lizard-man (a good twenty feet tall) and giant mutant crab monster probably fared better.

But if you want to do some endgame sidequests, you better do some of the simpler stuff now.  I gave up because the endgame sidequests required me to complete a gazzillion babyquests before allowing me to progress.

That is by far the biggest problem with this game. There is too much filler crap and you have to do it at some point and if you wait its so easy its just busywork.

You don't (have to) do it.

True but then you dont level up well and miss out on money to get good stuff. I love exploring I just wish they would have streamlined things much more. There is way too much fnish a quest, go back to town, get another quest, finish that, that opens up new quests where you have to run around look for people in this giant city, then go back again to the field.

The game is great it just needs an editor.

You can level op just fine by fighting enemies. Fight enemies that are 6 or more levels above you and it will go even quicker.

Vader if you get to a new area. Immediately go to the villages where the quest are given. Talk to all people and try to get as many sidequest as you can. Then explore the area and kill and collect everything and you have completed 90% of your quests.

You can always go back and do sidequest later, just not the ones with a clock near them. Spoiler: the quest in Alcamoth become unavailable when you reach the head of Mechonis. So do them first if you must.

You can level by just grinding. You do not need to do any sidequests to complete the extra endgame content!

That is not so. You can talk to everyone in an area and only get a first wave of quests. As you talk to more and more people, some have to be in certain orders you unlock more quests. You unlock more quests as you finish other quests. There is no way around it, you have to go back and forth a ton of times and search these MASSIVE cities not only once but twice cause of the time changing. Your stupid ass map doesnt show where the quest markers are, you can only see them on the mini map which requires you to run around to find them.

All it takes is a few adjustments to the quest system, the maps, the traveling and this game becomes much better. Its already amazing cause I have never seen such scale in a game before.

I was talking about the quests non named characters give you. Like kill all monsters and collect shit. Those are the ones you can complete in a single swoop. Try finishing the Alcamoth quest and the Frontier Village Red Pollen quest. Those are awesome. Also I am well aware of the short comings of the quest system, I already mentioned them in the X thread. A monsterpedia would also be a very welcome addition.
