Coming: 2010
From IGN's Interview: "Reggie Fils-Aime on the Record"
IGN: You have a bit more insight on the development of Galaxy 2. What's the direction for the game? Do they really want to blow it out or will it be more of the same?
Reggie: What Mr. Miyamoto has shared is that if the first Galaxy was maybe more inviting in terms of all the audiences, what Galaxy 2 is going to be is maybe a little more Nintendo fan / harder gamer focused. A little tougher. The use of Yoshi makes it a little more challenging. We showed some of the snippets of some of the activities -- it's a bit more challenging. It's going to be, if you will, for more of that passionate Mario fan who grew up getting challenged with Super Mario World. It's going to be much more in that area.
From "Shigeru Miyamoto Roundtable LiveBlog"
"With Super Mario Galaxy, it's the first time we really worked with spherical worlds and we had a lot of ideas about how to use gravity. However, when we finished the game, we realized there were a ton of ideas we just couldn't fit in," he says.
More than 90 percent of what you will see in Super Mario Galaxy 2 is all brand new. Maybe even 95 percent . . . Galaxy 2 contains roughly the same amount of content as the original.
Galaxy 2 is very, very far along, but since Nintendo has New Super Mario Bros. Wii, it's going to hold off and keep Galaxy 2 for next year. :(
No, there is no alternate character.
I agree with you Galaxy 2 feels like Galaxy 1, but sometimes also different. What world are you? Star count means nothing.
Bosses are awesome too.
Mushrooms lots of mushroomsWorld 3 I think.
There are some parts of Galaxy 1 I prefer, not just because it was the first game, there are just some very well designed, grin worthy levels there. In Galaxy 2 there are galaxies which reference levels in the first game and feel a little me too. They are always fun, but it's not the Galaxy 1 consistent feeling of freshness and OMG face grinning. As I said I am only 28 stars in.
Understandable, but remember you are comparing it too your memory of playing Galaxy 1. You always remember the best parts. Galaxy 2 has a lot less water levels than Galaxy 1 for example, the water levels in Galaxy 1 were just fillers and they were way too many. But like Galaxy 2, the very best levels are at the end. World 5 and 6 are just sick. There should be a technology where we can compress Galaxy 1 and 2 in a single Mario Universe disc.
Yeah, I beat the story! Do you mean the credits or the other thing?
I have a good memory and I enjoyed the water levels of galaxy 1.
I liked the one with Penguins in the tropical island, but all the other one were a bit too much. Big Mouth Galaxy you just swam to the star, a bit too simple. There were not bad, but not as nearly as cool as the rest. Too much swimming and not enough action. Galaxy 2 fixes that by putting it in 2D.
The thing that opens up afterwards.
Big Mouth was one of my favourites
I knew it was coming, people or creatures were talking about it. In the game I mean
Disappointed that in unlocked by completing the game like in NSMBWii, I wish it would open up by finding a secret exit or something. But that is my main beef in Galaxy 2, the secrets paths on the map are not really secret! Same was true for Galaxy 1.
Played the first level and was worried that it might be old levels, but then I saw the second one. It looked like Rainbow road, did not play it, but I am certain that this is no old level. Read the name of the levels, can't wait to try them.
