Mirror's Edge is a very unique game in its graphical style and 1st-person gameplay. Its not an overly long game, which is good because it doesn't have the variety to it to sustain itself for any longer than it lasts. But what is there is worth checking out. You play as a girl named Faith who is kind of like a futuristic bike messenger, running from rooftop to rooftop to deliver packages. That's basically all there is to the game; you get chased over rooftops and have to find the quickest way to get from point A to point B. Combat is crappy. You have to disarm somebody to get a gun, and neither melee nor gun combat feel very satisfying in the game. A better combat system could have given the game some much needed variety beyond the platforming. In a nutshell, its one of those early generation experiments that, while not the greatest game ever made, is definitely worth checking out...and is very memorable because of its uniqueness and graphical style. Similar to games like de Blob & Killer 7. Hopefully if EA is making a sequel, they will come up with some deeper gameplay ideas than just being chased around buildings and roofs the entire time. |
