I'm not real interested with Disenchantment myself. For now I'm just sticking with the new episodes of The Black List

My godamn cat got caught up in some wires near the tv and brought down my switch and dock, crashing 2ft down onto a hard floor, face down on the screen.

I was ready to disown her but the Switch didn't get a godamned, scratch or crack and works fine. Phew.

Now that I'm done with Dragon Quest, I really have no idea what I'm going to do next. I tried picking up Breath of the Wild this morning, but I really have no interest in that. Probably going to take a break from gaming for a while and catch up on some stuff on Netflix.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood??

I decided to get a new graphics card for my PC.

I'm thinking of building a whole new PC around the time the new consoles come out, which is still likely about two years away. My current PC I built in the summer of 2012, just before the current gen kicked in...and I gotta say; the fucker is still pretty damn great as long as it's 1080p. I got the best gaming parts I could at the time, without going totally oveboard on unnecessary fluff because honestly, there's a lot of hype around the uber best of the best with PC tech that most of the time is overkill. As long as you build a PC that is beyond the current console tech, you really don't need to get too much crazier than that, and certainly don't need to upgrade beyond that until a substantial tech increase comes along.

It seems like we're getting to that time now. You have the new CPU lines out now, and they're going to be used in the new consoles which means the tech will actually be put to use. If the consoles can't keep up with a certain area, it's just not going to be fully utilized in the PC space either...that's just the way it is. So that's great news. Also, the new GTX 2080 line just came out which is honestly overkill at this point and will go down as an in between card; great now, obsolete two years from now when new consoles and new PC cards release.

So I've had the same GPU since 2012...the mighty GTX 680 4gb. The card is still to this day able to run every game around high settings at 1080p. Definitely can't push resolutions beyond that though, and from this point until the new consoles release in a few years, it's going to really begin showing it's age. So I decided to trade it in and pick up a nice cheap stop gap card, the EVGA GTX 1060 6gb. It's not a 1080 ti or anything, but at 1080p, it's more than good enough for a few years of gaming.

That brings me to another point. The whole resolution fad is so overblown. While 4K is nice, it doesn't come close to the jump from SD to 1080p. I have a PS4 Pro and a 4K TV, and I still think 1080p is more than fine. Especially when 4K comes at the cost of frame rates and actual graphical upgrades. I just don't think the need is really there yet for 4K. Just trying to run at that resolution takes up so many resources it's insane. Maybe when the new consoles come out, by that time it will be the best of both worlds.

So that should be cool having a new beefier GPU to mess with...kind of like going from an Xbone to an Xbone X. It should be great for new games like Resident Evil 2 or Cyberpunk. In terms of building a whole new rig...to me now is a bad time. Maybe others feel different, but I've always felt a great time to build a PC is when new consoles get announced. You know the specs to shoot for, and high end parts are cheaper. You build one now, in the middle of a generation, and it's behind the curve in a few years.

So here's to my EVGA GTX 680. You served me well from the time Witcher 2 came out until now. R.I.P.

Got back into Splatoon turf wars. Love the Starfish main stage changes. Much bigger and better sight lines. Now I can use a gatling. Initially hated the Ancho V games changes as they ruined the choke point I used to defend like Gandalf. But now it's a lot more open too and I can aim and shoot more with a gatling.

Nintendolife Review Starlink: Battle For Atlas  9/10 A Shining Example Of Open World Star Fox Done Right

:

Now, let’s talk Star Fox. Back when it was first announced at E3 2017, the use of Fox and his Arwing felt like a cool (if slightly soulless) product of Ubisoft’s growing partnership with Nintendo, but in reality, you’re getting more than just an excuse to play with an Arwing toy. Fox isn’t just some side-quest tucked into the corner of Starlink’s universe like a DLC add-on - the game weaves him and the rest of the gang into the main story with full dialogue and cutscenes, so you can play the entire game with him from start to finish.

There are some exclusive missions you can follow at any time as well (you cycle between missions by pressing left or right on the D-Pad), with Fox and co off to track down Wolf and uncover how the furry villain phases into Starlink’s wider universe. But it’s in how seamlessly the Star Fox licence - and the smooth controls of its flight model - mesh together that makes this the definitive version of the game.

From that unique real-time transition between space exploration, dogfighting, on-land combat and missions to the empowering setup of its control system, the integration of game and licence is so seamless it’s hard to imagine playing Starlink without an Arwing. It’s a far cry from the awkward control scheme of Star Fox Zero and is easily the most enjoyable entry in the series since Lylat Wars. If Nintendo isn’t making a new Star Fox at this stage, the incredible work Ubisoft Toronto has done evoking the classic days of the franchise should be all it needs to fast-track its proper return on Switch.

Interesting

Sadly that game will probably bomb. I've always thought it looked pretty neat though.

Nice! My 970 is great for 1080p and that's what I run mostly everything at. Perfect 60fps and high quality. Will wait for a year or two into next gen to get a new PC. Mainly for VR gen 2.

What the F is this Huawei thing?

Things get a little more interesting from a gaming point of view thanks to the inclusion of a stylus for the screen, and an optional gamepad which attaches to the left-hand side of the phone in a similar way to the Joy-Con. Only one pad is supported, meaning your right hand will still use the touchscreen, but Huawei has specifically listed the Switch as a competitor, hoping to ruin Nintendo's handheld party once and for all.

Controller

With a larger display, higher resolution, bigger battery, and arguably even more portability than the Switch, you might be thinking that this sounds like a good deal. Unfortunately, the device is set to cost a whopping €899 (approx. $1,040) at launch, and that's before you factor in any monthly contract plans to use any of the phone's features. For the sake of comparison, the Switch launched with a retail price point of $299.99 - a cool $740 cheaper.

It only had one side of a controller? What the heck?

How the hell did this story go without comment?

Sega cancelled a full-fledged Shenmue HD remake

It was a remake, not a remaster and there is footage there.

I’m not really that big of a Shenmue fan myself so it just kind of got a “Meh” from me. Now a tale of swords and boobies, that’s more my style. wink

Yeah I think anything from the 900 series cards and up will be great for the next few years. Then at some point we'll be able to get insane deals on Ryzen cpu's and whatever the top tier gpu cards are in a few years. I'm assuming DDR4 memory will still be standard and whatever else is easy stuff next to the cpu and gpu. As long as I can play everything at max settings for the following 7 years I'm happy.

I saw the Shenmue thing. I had already watched the digital foundry video about it so I didn't feel like commenting. LOL

Honestly, It's probably best they just did the slight HD upgrade and kept it as it was. If they had really upped the visuals without also improving the gameplay after 18 years, this particular series would feel pretty odd I think. I think doing proper remakes of both Shenmue games wasn't really in SEGA's budget. I'd like to see the Yakuza team do a reimagining of the old games though.

Congrats to Canada! yes Hopefully the US government will do the same soon. Arresting people for weed is insane.
