Sony made a lot of money Q3 but the future outlook is bad.
The Japanese tech giant said it anticipates a net loss of ¥110 billion for the full year through March, compared with its previous forecast for a profit of ¥30 billion. That was much worse than an estimate of ¥16.79 billion profit from analysts polled by financial data provider Quick. It was Sony's second downward revision in just three months.
That is a worse revision than Nintendo right? DOOOOOOMMMEDD!!!!!
Kaz already took action selling off its Vaio department, so no more PC for them. And they are spinning off their TVs into a seperate brand.

I beg to differ. Yes, vaio's are expensive, but they were also of consistent high quality, up there with Apple and Asus in terms of reliability. They also had some of the best screens around. The problem with Vaio's in my opinion is that they don't really fill a niche. People who are snobbish enough to pay extra for brand and build quality would go with Apple, while companies probably would opt for a more workhorse like brand like HP or Dell.

Sony are laying off 5000 employees Operating income was also dented by a 6.2bn write-off on “certain PC titles sold by Sony Online Entertainment”.
The company has also confirmed plans to sell-off its Vaio PC business and spin-off its TV division into a separate business unit. Its focus will instead shift to smartphones and tablets. As a result Sony admits that around 5,000 workers are expected to lose their jobs by the end of fiscal 2014.
*i fiind the reporting of this amazing in the games media 2day compared to the nintendo financials. here we have a company havin 2 sell off prodcut lines and anex other sections of business, whilst laying off 5000 peope and projecting full year losses larger than Nintendo - and yet the games media headlines with "Playsation Profit" and tries to bury the bad news as an afterthought in the text.
Here's how a Business site reported it:
Sony Slashes 5,000 Jobs And Exits PC Market
The maker of the iconic Walkman shifts further from its home entertainment roots as it seeks to concentrate on mobile devices.
Japanese electronics firm Sony is to cut 5,000 jobs and stop making PC products.
The company said as part of its restructuring plans it would reduce its overheads by £600m a year.
It said "drastic changes" in the computer market meant it would now focus on smartphones and tablets and "cease planning, design and development of PC products".
Large losses in the television sector have previously thwarted the company's ability to compete with smartphone manufacturers Apple and Samsung.
Sony now expects a full-year loss of £660m in the fiscal year ending in March.
This comes after the maker of the iconic Walkman personal stereo and maker of Spider-Man movies held its fiscal year sales projection unchanged at £46bn.
For the fiscal year ending in March 2013, Sony had recorded a £260m profit, despite the firm suffering a £65m loss in the last three months of 2012.
In the latest third quarter it has reported a 24% sales rise, as it expanded smartphone and mobile computing device offerings.
The job cuts - 3,500 overseas and 1,500 in Japan - are to hit Sony's PC and TV divisions and are expected to be implemented by March next year.
It said the Vaio PC division would be sold to Japan Industrial Partners investment fund, in a deal reportedly worth £240m.
Sony will retain a 5% stake in the fund. The TV sector will be unloaded into a separate unit before August this year.
Here's how a gaming site reports it:
Sony's PlayStation division sales up 64% to $4.2 billion
Massive increase in operating profit due to launch of PlayStation 4 console.
Sony’s Game segment – the part of the company responsible for the PlayStation business – recorded a 64 percent increase in sales during the third quarter to $4.2 billion.
Operating income skyrocketed almost 300 percent to $172 million compared to the same period last year.
Sony did not break down units sales, instead it noted that it had sold 7.8 million PS4 and PS3 systems combined during the third quarter and 2 million combined PSP and PS Vita systems.
Game software sales topped 126 million, which includes packaged and digital units.
The success of the PlayStation 4 had a wider impact on the whole business, with Sony Corp recording quarterly sales of $22.9 billion and net profits of $257 million.
The company had sold 2.1 million PS4 units less than a month after release, with that number rising to 4.2 million at the start of this year.
Last week UK managing director Fergal Gara told VG 247 he still wasn’t happy with the amount of stock allocated to the region, and he’s pushing to get more PlayStation 4 units on sale to meet demand.
And no mention of the other troubles at all, classy
Sony had:
That's a ton of cuts.
Some of these companies just get too big for their own good.
Then things are improving. Or they're just running out of people to fire.
Yep their gaming division turned around completely around the launch of the slim.
Its like these big empires back in the day...once you have so much land and so many people under your control, its only a matter of time before it falls apart. Then you have to slowly pull back or run the risk of completely imploding.
iwata said n has about 5000 employees globally.
sad 2 hear about sony tvs, apart from pstationn all my stuff is sony, tv-stereo-bluray all hooked up. i would look into a new sony tv as their sd scaling is very good. they seem 2 want 2 cpncentrate on super nich 2k and 4ktvs

#SuperMario3DWorld on#WiiU. Lush visuals, silly music, fun to play. Rest of world please take note.#FUN My wife is IN and it's a Mario tastic evening. An implosion almost looks inevitable. But then Sony will sell another billion dollar building and stave it off for a few more years. I hope they hang in there. But the world is a cruel and unforgiving place for a massive, faceless corporation that too often plugs its ears to changing ways.

to be fair a couple of sites have sectioned off the stories. Still, I realise gaming sites would be mor interested in gam news but every site headlining with a positive, that plays down, or ignores the negative? a few sites stories content text doesn't evn mention the other aspects 2 the story wtf? $1 bill loss? 5k job cuts? bye bye PC? focus now on smartphones? tv spun off to a niche?
compare the stories 2 nintendo whose shares recovered bak 2 normal, who haven't fired or cut out parts or their business and who have projected a far smaller loss. and the games press relentlessly hounded as DOOMED, portraying them as forever being on the brink of death.
Sony Sales April - December:
